ICAO
A. The International Civil Aviation Organization is a specialized agency of the United Nations. It codifies the principles and techniques of international air navigation and fosters the planning and development of international air transport to ensure safe and orderly growth. It‘s headquarters are located in the Quartier International of Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Functions of ICAO –
1. The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) supervises the standards and practices of air navigation, its infrastructure.
2. Flight inspection, prevention of unlawful interference and facilitation of border crossing procedures for international civil aviation.
3. It also defines the protocols for air accident investigation followed by signatory agencies of the convention on International Civil Aviation in respective countries.
4.ICAO is active in infrastructure management including Communication, Navigation, Surveillance/Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) systems which employ digital technologies like satellite systems with various levels of automation in order to maintain a seamless global air traffic management system
ABOUT IATA
It has it’s headquarter in Montreal, Canada with Executive Offices in Geneva, Switzerland. In 2003 the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) was launched with the aim to serve as a standard and worldwide recognized certification of airlines’ operational management. The IOSA certification has now become mandatory requisite for all IATA member airlines. IATA is a member of the Air Transport Action Group (ATAG). IATA was formed in April 1945 in Havana, Cuba it is the successor to the international Air traffic association, which was formed in 1919 at The Hague, Netherlands. The first traffic conference was held in 1947 in RIO DE JENERIO and reached unanimous agreement on some 400 resolutions. Despite its factual influence.
